Video conferencing alternatives. Which one is best for your business?

Well 2020 has certainly been a ‘different’ year! Due to the world wide pandemic, we now communicate with each other differently as human to human contact has been limited.

As like many businesses, your business may have been affected by this, switching to the world of digital communication. 2020 has seen a massive boom in video conferencing due to meetings, networking events and social events heading online.

According to ITPro, at the start of the pandemic Zoom reported a revenue growth of 169% as people flooded online at the start of lockdown. However, even though Zoom is a very popular and easy to use video conferencing tool, there are alternatives out there that could be more suitable for your business.

Microsoft Teams:

Microsoft Teams is a feature of Office 365 meaning that if your business already operates in Outlook or Sharepoint, this conferencing software will be a tight fit within your business operations.

However, if you do not already operate in Office 365, don’t worry anyone can sign up using a personal email address to access the free version.

The free version includes;

  • Up to 300 members
  • Guest access
  • One-to-one video calls
  • Group video calls
  • Audio calls
  • File sharing
  • Screen sharing

Cisco WebEx:

Believe it or not, WebEx was founded in 1995 and acquired by Cisco in 2007 meaning that this video conferencing software has been around much before the COVID pandemic.

Cisco WebEx also offers a free version for up to three users.

The features on the free version include:

  • HD video
  • Screen sharing
  • Recording options
  • 50 participants per meeting
  • 40minuet meeting time cap

However, if you find this free version a bit too basic for your business needs, there is different paid plan options that you can choose from that will unlock more features. This video conferencing may not be the cheapest option but certainly a good investment with the paid plans.

Google Hangouts Meet:

Google Hangouts Meet is the video conferencing business tool for G suite subscribers. The service is designed to work in a Google Chrome browser meaning that if a lot of your current business operations is already focused around Googles apps and software then Google Hangouts Meet is for you.

External participants can also join your meetings but the features you can access highly depends on the G suite subscription access your business already has.
